Why are you buying that old thing?
This I hear from my husband each
time we stop at a yard sale on the
local "trash to treasures" events.
Trash to someone is my
treasure for sure.
Come on, you can do it too!
Whether it is an old pitcher, or wooden box or metal basin...
it can be your next show piece on your front step or porch.
Use your imagination and pick up that old container and visualize how you will paint it and sand it down to look weathered.
Spray paint is cheap, about $1. Choose a bright color, or one that matches your front door.
Then shop for the inexpensive "single" plants at the garden center. I find buying the single plants cheaper. Have you seen the prices of hanging baskets? Ridiculous!
I try to plant perennials in my planters so as not to have to buy flowers each year. In the Fall, I collect the dead flower heads and store them in a dry area until Spring. Early Spring is the time to spread your seeds in your planter and place in a sunny spot. No cost out of the pocketbook and beautiful flower pots once again.
Or instead of browsing the garage sales, you can find some unique containers here.
