I need to plan. I make a list, prioritize and organize.
When it comes to gardening, my brain starts to concentrate on this years garden. What to grow, seed list, money allocated, where to improve, what seeds will I be starting indoors, all these things need to be considered. All this planning will save time and money, and lots of running around at the last minute.
As long as you have your plan in order, all will fall into place smoothly - hopefully.
Here are some helps and my seed starter soil mix is also below:
1. Gardening Space
Where you'll be growing your garden - hours of sun.
Size of garden - lay it out on paper.
Will you use containers and raised beds - even porch space for additional pots.
2. What Do You Want to Grow?
Being Italian, I love my herbs, tomato's and garlic. Lots of greens for my salads are a must, along with eggplant and squash.
3 Sit down and draw it out.
You don't absolutely have to draw out a garden plan, but it can help you see your space and how things will work out more clearly.
4. Make a seed list - buy only heirloom seeds so you can store your own seeds year after year.
My husband and I love to support this family who sells only heirloom seeds.
My seed starter soil mix:
4 parts compost
1 part perlite
1 part vermiculite
2 parts peat moss
