Our mountain cottage is located in an area that has access to many lakes. Keeping this theme in mind, I desire to focus on the lake, fishing, canoeing, and the forest.
I have found that summer is the best time to shop for rugs, bedding and curtains. Don't ask me why, I presume with summer in full swing there is a slack in consumers shopping for these items this time of the year.
Right now I am working on our loft. Finding the perfect area rug to pull it all together is first on my list. I want an inviting focal point that will draw my guests in to relax and stay a while. I believe I have found the perfect area rug which I will use to base my decorating around. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one!
I have chosen this area rug not only for the beautiful representation of forest and lake, but also for the bold magenta and blues that seem to jump out and catch the eye. My desire is to paint one of the larger walls a deep sky blue, such as the color that is above the fish in the carpet. The other walls will be a light gray.
This area rug is a gorgeous showcase of traditional design and rustic outdoor imagery. Black bear, whitetail deer, pine cones, canoes, fish, and more adorn this timeless rustic accent while a rich color palette makes it a perfect accompaniment to any lodge themed home.
Many times a loft will be destined to be used as an additional sleeping area, but since we have a 3 bedroom cottage, my desire is to make our loft into a cozy retreat to sit and view the forest and curl up with a good book. I will keep you updated on my project.
Since we are high on the side of the mountain, away from prying eyes, there is no need for curtains in our loft - just open views allowing the forest to flow into the room, and the morning sunlight will greet the senses and relax the mind.
